venky80 only two things came to my mind:
1. bad choice of colours
2. bad localisation

Re: Daily KDE4 Subversion Packages

@venky80: which version?

20081107 for i686 has been available for a couple of hours, x86_64 is another hour or two away.

With all the changes I think we can expect some rough edges until mid week. I was going to stop building for a few days but then I thought "ah, what the heck, let's see what breaks". Packages that are so broken that they don't even build don't get uploaded anyway (obviously).

Re: Daily KDE4 Subversion Packages

Can be useful: http://developer.kde.org/~dirk/dashboard/ is a page where you can see current ststus of kde modules, if they can compile or not.

kdepim, kdepimlibs and kdesdk are problematic at the moment. Status changes from hour to hour, I guess they are making some big changes, reorganisation or whatever.....

Usual mood when nearing the hard feature freeze. smile

Re: Daily KDE4 Subversion Packages

Tried 20081107 i686, seemed to go OK, but on reboot (after I solved this gdm frozen mouse and keyboard problem http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/12026 ), when I tried to login to kde it pauses at the first item in the kde login screen, and then blacks out back to gdm login screen.

I did remove .kde first, but do have a backup of the last working .kde- guess I'll try that, just to see what happens.  Presently booted to Arch Gnome, which is working normally.

Anyone else seeing this one?

Re: Daily KDE4 Subversion Packages

wrc1944, well, not so long ago we had to remove .kde for every new build, especially plasmarc and plasma-appletsrc. It's not required to delete it so often these days, but if have problem with session that's the first thing to try.

Also, might want to try next update, thanks to markc we have them at least once a day. wink

Re: Daily KDE4 Subversion Packages

Githzeal,
Thanks- 20081107-14 works.  A few little problems, however.  On boot, I get a plasma crash dialog, with no details, but booting to kdesvn finishes up, and I can close out the dialog box.

Also, panel is black, icons work normally, but I can't install any desktop themes, like "glassified," etc.  Maybe this is because something's wrong with plasma.  I did remove .kde before reboot, so it's freshly generated with the new svn updates.  I'll look at the config files and see if I can find anything strange, broken,  or missing.

Otherwise, so far it's working OK- haven't tried much yet.

Re: Daily KDE4 Subversion Packages

1. Seems I made a small mistake when naming the kvirc package: version number is wrong, should be 4.0-$(date -u +%Y%m%d%H) instead of 2.0-$(date -u +%Y%m%d%H).

2. Realy, what's up with kdepimlibs and kdepim? I was able to compile it with no problems, both yesterday and today. Kdesdk is a mess, but those two work.

Re: Daily KDE4 Subversion Packages

@Githzerai: updated kvirc for the next build and I was missing libical so my kdepimlibs has not built for about the last 2 weeks! Needless to say that libical is now be a dependency of kdepimlibs. Here's hoping akregator won't crash on exit anymore.

@wrc1944: there has been some changes due to the move of libplasma into kdelibs after 4.1.3 was released. The most disruptive moves have now been made so 20081110 should be a fairly decent build.

Update: I'm running [testing] on my main desktop and there was a kernel and xorg-server upgrade so I rebooted and found KDE would not start because of a missing libplasma.so.3 from ksmserver, it turned out I had to specifically reinstall kdelibs... no idea why but then I had a libplasma.so.3. Then when KDE was up and running I had no keyboard/mouse! Yikes, but it turned out I needed to install xf86-input-evdev and all is okay. Akregator is still a sick puppy. The new kmail threading is really annoying for me, I much prefer a flat list and there does not seem to be a way of turning off the fancy threading! At least it's possible to turn off the even more annoying tooltips in Appearance -> Message List. One thing that is useful is the tabbed view of different folders... that is definitely a worthwhile improvement.

Another minor point is I removed my xorg.conf when trying to figure out why I had no keyboard/mouse and I haven't yet put back the original nVidia based config and, really, the responsiveness of the default vesa xorg driver is just as good as with a dud nVidia driver (8200). Of course I can't use any composite effects but I haven't been using them anyway so I'm not missing anything.

Re: Daily KDE4 Subversion Packages

@markc: the new xorg is using hal for autoadding devices and etc. To disable this put:

Option "AutoAddDevices" "off"

in ServerLayout section. Than RESTART THE PC, not only X smile

btw something strange happens to the panel sometimes ...
panellr8.th.pngthpix.gif
Can anybody confirm it?
And also Amarok get crash when try to add collection.

Yes, i can confirm the same, on exactly the same events sequence : amarok crashes, kde crash handler starts, and suddenly that strange thing with panel appears. Weird big_smile

Re: Daily KDE4 Subversion Packages

Hi markc,

thx for your nice packages...

I have still issues with program icons that are layed down in /usr/shar/hicolor. they seem to be not recognized, it just looks ugly...

A workaround for me was to copy the whole data from default_kde4 to hicolor and then back the qhole thing to default... very ugly but it works. Maybe there is a better solution?

Next thing... i think yiz should add poppler and poppler-qt as a dependency to kdegraphics ... otherwise okular will not open pdf files...

Greetings

Re: Daily KDE4 Subversion Packages

Is Kvirc active in the KDE4 development?  It still looks like it belongs in KDE3 with the ugly icons.  Quassel looks much better, however it is not easy to use and seems a bit odd to me. Konversation devs have posted that they are working on KDE4 version which is making progress, looking forward to this.

Does anyone know what the deal is with the kdebindings? I don't see python bindings there, i see ruby however, is there something I am missing? I want to utilize pykde4 bindings.

thanks.

Re: Daily KDE4 Subversion Packages

1.lee_connell, kvirc is not a kde4 program, but a qt one. It only has , so called, kde4 support, though still experimental, and no real use of it as far as i can see, though it's enabled in the build.
Kvirc development is very active these days, so I expect some improvements andpolishing soon.

2. Problem with kdebindings is smoke-kde. Yes, it should be possible to compile bindings without it, but that would be rather unfortunate build since smoke is related to everything else in kdebindings. And, as u still need smoke, it would mean compiling smoke from branches, but I don't know how effective it would be. I've experimented with it for a while, but no luck.

BTW, is anyone missing Lancelot? I compiled kdeplasma-addons just to be sure, it compiles perfectly, with Lancelot enabled, but can't find it anywhere... ??? Strange....

EDIT: Lancelot is currently disabled in kdeplasma-addons when Plasma::ToolTipContent was intraduced, ehatever that means, so I was told....

Re: Daily KDE4 Subversion Packages

I added extragear-pim to have a look at mailody but it crashes on me after I added an IMAP resource via akonadi. It has an ugly overlap of the akonadi libs from kdepim, so it needs to be a forced install. Hopefully a fresh build will sort it out. It also depends on libmarblewidget which is in kdeedu (a rather strange dependency!). Kmail has been the rock of my KDE experience for many years but I hate the new threaded listing.

Update: I also just added a [dev]/firefox-nightly package based on the one from AUR but hugely simplified. The video plays back on the test page but not the audio but that could be because of some desktop audio conflict on my end.

http://eth-os.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/ … y/PKGBUILD
http://www.skierpage.com/moz_bugs/test_ … _tags.html

This is posted using 3.1 but there is something weird with the URL bar, hitting enter with a new URL does not seem to bring up a new page.

Update2: Another non-kde-svn related point, I just added a little Qt only RSS reader called "qrss" from http://qrss.googlecode.com to the [gui] section. It's simplistic and crashes on some feeds, doesn't handle 301 redirects, doesn't have a Quit menu option but it's redeeming quality is that it's codebase is so simple that it would make for a good first, or second, beginners Qt project (think Qt Creator perhaps). It does use Cmake and builds out of tree so the foundation of a comfortable start to Qt programming is there for the checking out. If anyone knows of a more mature Qt-only RSS or Qt/KDE Miro-clone then please post a link as I'd love to include it in the gui section. Kitty @ http://www.kde-apps.org/content/show.php?content=29730 would be excellent but it's pre-KDE4 and seems to be abandoned... but it would have some interesting code snippets to add to qrss :-)

Update3: I just now also added arora (Qt-only web browser) from git. It's quite fast and snappy and almost plays flash. I'm currently building qt-snapshot and will try another arora compile on top of the latest qt-snapshot and if that plays back flash without crashing I'll try and upload it somehow (all built on a testing system which is a slightly incompatible with the kde-svn builds).

http://eth-os.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/ … a/PKGBUILD

One thing that is good is that this PKGBUILD uses the standalone "getsource()" function and, as it turns out, can still be built with the current mpkg script... I now have no excuses left not to turn all the kde-svn (and eth-os) PKGBUILDs into standalone versions. They're still not AUR compatible but at least anyone can cd into the source package and use "makepkg" to build a local version of any of the eth-os package set.

Re: Daily KDE4 Subversion Packages

Githzera: "and no real use of it as far as i can see, though it's enabled in the build", How come you say there is no real use for kvirc? Is there a better replacement?

Also noticed there is no "quickview/quickaccess" plasma plugin, the one kubuntu 8.10 ships with as default.
