[SEMI SOLVED] From install media: boot stops at SLUB line

I saw this post: http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=57697, it might be related.

The system in question is based on the AMD 750 chipset (DFI Lanparty 790GX-M2RS), AMD X2 5000 with 4GB of RAM, all tested to be stable. If a current install image is used, be it 32bit or 64 bit, the boot process stops on this line:

SLUB: Genslabs=12, HWalign=64, Order=0-1, MinObjects=4, CPUs=4, Nodes=1

As can be seen it's identical to the post mentioned even though hardware must be very different (I so assume since that thread talks about a Laptop). Before even seeing that thread I tested with an old CD with Arch 2007.8 on it, and it boots perfectly well.

The ugly way would be to install core from the Arch 2007.8 and hope for the best from there. However I doubt it to be very constructive since the issue might get "inherited". I looked for bugs about this but didn't find anything.

Thus I ask you: do you the reason for this and why the line above looks so odd? Maybe I'm interpreting it wrong, but I don't get the "CPUs=4" thing. This is beyond my knowledge, so I don't even know where to start looking for solutions.

Re: [SEMI SOLVED] From install media: boot stops at SLUB line

I understand that this weekend might be bad if looking for support. I tried to boot with the archlinux-2008.10-archboot.img (as I can understand it contains both a i686 and a x86-64 setup) and it works fine. Haven't had the time yet to actually test making an install from it, but I will probably later today. I don't know whether I'm encountering a BIOS issue or it's just one of those things that happens when you're choosing a new chipset design, in this case the AMD 750 (but to be fair it has been out for some time and I read at Phoronix that it worked well; however DFI motherboards aren't that frequently tested among Linux users).

cat /proc/cpuinfo looks perfectly normal and defines the two core as expected. This time the "SLUB" line looks different though:

SLUB: Genslabs=12, HWalign=64, Order=0-3, MinObjects=0, CPUs=4, Nodes=1

Still that for me confusing CPUs=4. Let's see if anyone can enlighten me on this.

Re: [SEMI SOLVED] From install media: boot stops at SLUB line

I've search for knowledge but haven't found any answers. "2008.06 Overlord" didn't allow me to boot, but the new "2008.10 Nepal" worked very well. Hence I suppose it's better to forget about this issue. It could well be something kernel related and now fixed in later versions.

Hey there,
one of my friends had the same problem. Also got it solved with the 2008.10 Nepal, thanx!
