Well im surfing pretty much around to find a distro i like but once i install the GRUB bootloader it still wont boot. The LILO doesnt work either.
When i turn it on its just coming up with an underscore on a black screen.
BTW i haven't used a physical computer for this because its not for my own computer but for the case of education. So i have been looking on whatever that looks interesting.

Have you tried to follow the beginners guide? Have a look at http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Beginners_Guide.
If this still doesn't help: when does the undersorce on black screen appear? Before or after grub started? Can you post you /boot/grub/menu.lst ?

am i supposed to download the boot files from the wiki?
i did just follow the instructions which came through installation.
Then i'll just wait and see. I have just promised to come with a working distribution for school. and what is better for teaching than arch linux when you do the whole crap yourself.

I'm a newbie to in Arch Linux, but where do you install GRUB to when asked. For example I got the options:
/dev/sda
/dev/sda1
/dev/sda2
/dev/sda3
/dev/sda4
I've choosen the first one (/dev/sda)! It might be the problem that you write your GRUB to the wrong option!

I think computer viruses should count as life. Maybe it says something about human nature, that the only form of life we have created so far is purely destructive. Talk about creating life in our own image.

Grub can be installed, in external boot devices such as floppy's, USB storage. But your main disk is the MBR. I recommend you install to the main disk like /dev/sda. In case you're using RAID you should install to all the hard disks. The installation prompts this for you.
