Hi all, today i have upgraded to the 6.8.1 release of xorg to see those new features. I have an intel 855GM video card on my laptop, and 6.8.0 came with new 3D drivers. Imagine my surprise when i see i have lost 3D acceleration with this new release. I had kernel 2.6.7 so I updated to 2.6.8.1 that has updated i810 drivers. But nothing has been solved, no 3D accel. Also, gdm crashes sometimes and give me no graphical gdm. If i turn on the new window shadowing, it's very slow, i think is for the XOrg configuration or something.
Someone know how to solve this?

Just want to note, I lost my 855GM 3D acceleration too after upgrading to xorg 6.8.0/6.8.1. I'm pretty sure it's a missing kernel module or something, as it is failing to load a certain one when I start xorg.

Update on the 3D acceleration: Fedora had the same issue, they added the i915 module to the kernel and now 3D acceleration is reported to work. See following bug report:

I have compiled last kernel with support for i915 and it still doesn't have 3D acceleration

Well i have found a solution to this problem but it's annoying that kernel 2.6.8.1 doesn't have the I915 DRM driver! Why X.Org said that the new release had a new i810 enhanced 3D driver if the i915 module didn't exist?
In this page you have a patch for your kernel that will give you 3D acceleration by compiling the i915 driver, but Composite is still veeeeery slooooow, and I don't know why...

I had the same problem, and already filled a bug report, so I hope the next kernel pkg, should have the module in it.

Seems we're in a transition phase from i830 to i915, by both kernel and X. It should be for the better, as always. Thanks for your studies, I'll try it myself later, too!
