Hello,
After installing Archlinux and adding xorg, the nvidia drivers, and hwd, I type "startx" and the console gives no feedback, the cursor just blinks.
boshane@archlinux# startx
_
Aaaand it just sits there. How do I begin to figure out what's wrong?
Thank you!

Welcome to the forums. For starters, you should read /var/log/Xorg.0.log, and pay particular attention to the lines that start with either WW or EE. You should probably also let us know what desktop you are trying to set up, and what's in your ~/.xinitrc.

Should we assume that you actually generated a xorg.conf with hwd, or did you really just add the packages? If the latter, then you should have a look at the newbie guide in the wiki and/or the xorg article.
Have you configured ~/.xinitrc to load a window manager or desktop environment?

You should rename this thread as solved if you have everything working.

For anyone who thinks "stalls" might mean "hangs for a little while, then continues":
X has to lookup your hostname to be able to run, and this can take 10 seconds on improperly configured networking setups.

Windows was made for looking at success from a distance through a wall of oversimplicity. Linux removes the wall, so you can just walk up to success and make it your own.
