Video slideshow from images

Hi,

I'm totally new to this video thingy but the task I'd like to achieve seems simple enough: given a set of images (jpgs) and a sound (mp3), just display the images one after another till the sound finish to play.

Thought image2mpeg[1] was my answer but wont compile under Arch. After some tweaking I discovered that it wanted to link against libMagick, but the library provided in Arch is called libMagic++, so I changed that and it compiled just fine. One would think that it should make doubleplus good videos, but the result is barely watchable. The audio is there but the images are totally screwed.

So, the question: is there some program which creates a video from a set of still images with a provided soundtrack? I'd prefer command line, but I can bear GUI if it just does the work.

Do you want this for DVD or just a stand alone slide show?

DVD should be nice, but given that processing time seems quite significant, I wouldn't mind if it can produce some smaller files just to have a glimpse at the result.

Also I understand there are tools to convert to/from DVD, so first step would be to create the video file, I can worry about toast it to a DVD later.

I've never tried it, but a lot of people like dvd-slideshow (http://dvd-slideshow.sourceforge.net/wiki/Main_Page). It's in community.

Thanks for the tip, skottish! I've ran some preliminary tests and looks very promising, just the kind of thing I was looking for.

Which program would you recommend for standalone? I am just searching for a programm thats shows some picutres from different places? Like a playlist in audacious. Do you know one?
