PunBB 1.3 too awesome?

Is it just me, or is the upcoming version of PunBB going to blow away the competition? You can check out the RC by going to the offical forums or mess a demo by going here.

Can't wait for the release/upgrade.

I wasn't sure if this should have been posted here or in Off Topic, oh well.

There shouldn't be any reason to learn more editor types than emacs or vi -- mg (1)

Re: PunBB 1.3 too awesome?

Yeah, the release has been coming for a year and a half now. Hell, when we deployed punBB we kept telling people a lot of the missing features would reappear soon in 1.3...and they never released it.

BTW, there was a falling out over punBB and these forums will soon be switching to the actively developed fork, fluxBB ( http://fluxbb.org/ ).  FluxBB is still a very young fork, so it's basically the same thing right now, and they'll be making a 1.3 release pretty soon too.

Yeah, I read about FluxBB when checking out the Wikipedia article. I agree, the more actively developed fork is the ideal one to use.

Now the final is released: http://punbb.informer.com/forums/topic/ … l-release/
Maybe consider upgrading.

Having followed the development of both the fork and the "original" rather closely, I wouldn't recommend PunBB anymore. None of the original developers are working on PunBB anymore, and the current devs don't seem to have a clue. All the PunBB devs seem to have been doing for months now is checking out the source from FluxBB's SVN. (Anyone can verify this by taking a look at the SVN history.) They seem to focus their efforts on developing extensions. Now they apparently got tired of waiting for an expected markup update for FluxBB and decided to just release it.

Right now FluxBB seems to me to be the better alternative. At least the devs seem to know what they're doing.

After some inspection of the website. I would have to agree with you. The upcoming 1.3 version of FluxBB seems better then the 1.3 of PunBB.
Please consider FluxBB then. I would imagine they have a migration script.
