has anyone looked into using compiz-fusion as a standalone WM??? im just having a mess around with the idea! i will report my results as I go!
in the mean time, feel free to put any ideas or suggestions for me on here!
2007 - Started using Arch Linux as my only/main OS

I remember seeing a thread sometime ago that talked about standalone compiz-fusion. Have you searched the forum?

Compiz fusion is very usable as a standalone WM:

yeah, no de, just compiz as a wm!! should be fun! struggling at the minute with it tho!
fwojciec; thanks for that link! i have been playing with a lot of wm's recently, and new most of that already! i have got compiz up and running, just not useable!!
main issues at the mo;-
1./ no decoration!
2./ no mouse cursor, just an X
3./ no menu
4./ no keybindings!
5./ no effects
what i have done so far;-
pacman -S compiz-fusion
changed my ~/xinitrc to;
tint &
stalonetray -w &
exec compiz --replace ccp & emerald --replace
added the following to my screen section of my xorg.conf
Option "AddARGBGLXVisuals" "True"
Option "DisableGLXRootClipping" "True"
then isnstalled a menu;
pacman -S compiz-deskmenu
after all this, i restarted X, it all fired up, except tint. I then opened up ccsm from the compiz icon in my tray, and had no decoration, but set a few keybindings, followed the wiki on this subject to bind the menu, but nothing!!!!!!!!

Just for reference. This is my .xinitrc:
exec start-fusion.sh
And this is the start-fusion.sh script that starts everything:
#!/bin/sh
# D-bus
if which dbus-launch >/dev/null && test -z "$DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS"; then
eval `dbus-launch --sh-syntax --exit-with-session`
fi
nvidia-settings -l
nvidia-settings -a InitialPixmapPlacement=2 -a GlyphCache=1
export OOO_FORCE_DESKTOP=gnome
export DE=xfce
eval `cat ~/.fehbg`
urxvtd -o -q -f&
thunar --daemon&
glipper-old&
xfce4-panel&
xbindkeys
fusion-icon
Maybe that'll give you some ideas...

quick question fwojciec, how many x-servers du run at once? i know this was an issue a long time ago, that because i run my tv out as a separate x, compiz wouldnt work! i thout the issue had been fixed though!

hej,
i'm experimenting with compiz-fusion as standalone as well. my first concern is, how do i change the window-color? i mean emerald is just doing fine giving me fancy windowborders, but that's no use if the window-inside is ugly grey. so do you know what or who is responsible for coloring up my windows? or did i just miss the option somewhere?
EDIT:
ok i found out by myself, sorry for bothering. having gtk and glib installed you can use gtk-themes by creating ~/.gtkrc-2.0 and paste:
include "PATH/TO/THEME/gtk-2.0/gtkrc"
