Terminal does not work (cannot connect to the child process)

I decided to rebuild the system from scratch. Installed Arch from 2008.06 ISO - the usual way. Installed gnome the same usual way with the same packages.

Whenever I run gnome-terminal or sakura or urxvt I now always get a message that the terminal could not connect to the child process blah-blah. Terminal window appears, but there is no command prompt any more so the Terminal is useless

It happens in Openbox, XFCE etc so it is not related to GNOME. It never happened before, only starting from two days ago.

Can you help please?

Oh-oh, my mistake: should not have commented out /dev/pts in /etc/fstab
