Hi there, I just installed Arch yesterday and I have gotten most of it to work. The thing that bugs me is that USB devices or CDs don't get automatically mounted in KDE (i'm using kdemod3) like they did in Kubuntu.
I have both hal and dbus daemons running and added in rc.conf. I have added myself to the storage, optical and hal groups. My /etc/fstab looks like this:
# <file system> <dir> <type> <options> <dump> <pass>
none /dev/pts devpts defaults 0 0
none /dev/shm tmpfs defaults 0 0
UUID=63a07246-d4e3-448e-a7f2-b7f41a4d110e swap swap defaults 0 0
UUID=9adc6340-81ac-4988-a36d-2e4539ba176a / ext3 defaults 0 1
/dev/sda1 /media/win1 auto rw,user,auto,umask=0000 0 0
Any idea? I have gone around the wiki and the manuals, but I really can't find a thing. Thanks.

Did you put both HAL and D-Bus in DAEMONS=() section of the /etc/rc.conf file? If so, remove the second one and restart your system. HAL runs D-Bus automatically. Putting them both in aforementioned line only causes problems.
Also add yourself to dbus group.

"... being a Linux user is sort of like living in a house inhabited by a large family of carpenters and architects. Every morning when you wake up, the house is a little different. Maybe there is a new turret, or some walls have moved. Or perhaps someone has temporarily removed the floor under your bed."

No, on my DAEMONS section I only have hal. I also tried adding myself to the dbus group, and rebooting, but still, nothing happened.

I have this added to my fstab as well:
/dev/cdrom /media/cdrom auto ro,user,noauto,unhide 0 0
Works well indeed

Nop, not even like that... Tks anyway.

Do you use hal from testing?

No, I'm using the normal hal from the normal repositories (core, extra, community...)
