Install from USB

I have tried the new and improved way on linux. After running the mentioned command and booting my new desktop with the usb stick all I get is a lot of GRUB, literally. The screen just keeps outputing "GRUB" continously. Has anyone tried installing from USB? Any recommendations?
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Re: Install from USB

Did you do it from Windows or Linux?

II have used dd plenty of times to do USB installations, and it hasn't failed me once.  If you are using dd, make sure your writing to the entire device, and not a partition.

I used dd within linux. I also attempted the "Old Method from ISO" method, which didn't function well. When I cfdisked the drive I had used with dd I noticed there was a sinle partition that did not take up the entire drive. There was approximately 0.04 MB free space before and larger free space after the partition. Why might this happen? How might I correct this? Can I just expand the partition to take up the whole drive?

Thank you Kassanova.

Re: Install from USB

I am not exactly sure what happened, as I have only used the new method with .img files.  If you have the bandwidth, I would recommend downloading the USB image versus an ISO, as the process is a lot easier to work with.

Re: Install from USB

I'm sorry I didn't clarify what happened very well. I tried the 'new method' which failed in several different ways and then tried the 'old method,' which also failed.

This applies to the new method:

There was approximately 0.04 MB free space before and larger free space after the partition. Why might this happen? How might I correct this? Either way, I ended up getting hold of a cd-rom drive. Maybe I'll try to install from usb another day.
