How do I get Ekiga to see ossv4? [DONE]

Ekiga claims that it has oss support, but I can't figure it out. I searched the configure files from both opal and ekiga, and rebuild both. Ekiga simply will not see anything oss. Any ideas?

Holy cow! You broke out the Wikipedia card. Nice.

Well, that sucks monkey butts. I guess trying to get linphone to work is my next best option. Thanks jacko.

Isn't ossv4 backward compatible with oss API?

Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be. I went as far as to modify the source code of ptlib in order for it to link to libOSSlib.so, and it did nothing. It's really a pain. I've always had bad luck with voip phones in Linux with the exception of Skype. I'm not going to support a huge 32 bit set up anymore, so my options aren't so good.

--EDIT--

I marked this done because OSS is too underdeveloped at the moment. It definitely sounds better than ALSA, no question there. But, trying to get things like USB microphones working is a major hassle. Hopefully either OSS won't die, or more work will go into getting ALSA's sound quality better.
