Looking for a GTK2 dictionary that's not StarDict

As the title says, I'm looking for a GTK2 dictionary that's not StarDict. I like qstardict a lot, but I dropped QT4 off of my system. Preferably this dictionary will support local StarDict or dictd dictionaries, have fuzzy search, and hopefully will have optional or no system tray support. And, festival is a waste of space for me. I don't care if it's standalone or needs a back end like Python or Perl, and stuff like PyGTK is fine.

Re: Looking for a GTK2 dictionary that's not StarDict

I considered programming one myself a few months back, but didn't and now I don't have the time. The ones that are out there are either very poor in quality or require all of gnome.

If you find something, let me know. But I've looked everywhere.

Yeah, I've searched a number of times and didn't find anything. I'm considering writing one myself. It'll give me an opportunity to dive deeply into Python and SQL for the first time. For that reason alone it may be worth the time.

It looks like help is the way:

http://www.klokan.cz/projects/stardict- … exicon.png

I found it mentioned here:

http://www.klokan.cz/projects/stardict-lingea/

I haven't been able to find the source code yet, but hopefully this project will be (or is) released into the wild soon.

don't know if you found a good one yet, but i use fantasdic.

http://projects.gnome.org/fantasdic/

it says it's for gnome, but it's dependencies are pretty minimal if i remember correctly

I tried this one and it does seem nice. One thing that it doesn't do that I really want is the "fuzzy search". I like the way that StarDict lists options as I type.

Honestly I like StarDict's functionality, it's just ugly. I often think about writing a new front end for it, or something similar, but I'm so locked into other things that I'm interested in doing that I never get around to doing it. Even though I have some skills, I'm not a regular programmer, so it would be a major undertaking.
