In sorting through the forums, I've found numerous little scripts, configs, and scriptlets that are quite handy, as well as hundreds of requests for the same... so I figured, maybe that's a spot that needs to be filled... and so, ScriptWiki was born!
Check it out, post your scripts, request scripts in the forums, whatever...

This is likely to become something big, if people really contribute. I love the idea

Hmm, just a quick question, since I'm not that good with wikis: I was able to successfully create a new category with [[Category:Multimedia]], but with [[Category:Internet]] it says that the page has yet to be created... any idea?

If this is open to multiple distros, I would highly recommend tagging articles that are specific to a distro.

I already fixed that by redirecting it to [[Category:Network]] which already existed. If you do find you need a new category, create the page and put [[Category:<Parent Category>]] as the only content. This should only be a problem for a short while, sooner or later we will have all needed categories.

Alright, thank you

I run http://bashscripts.org , there are hundreds scripts there I like the wiki idea, except for the part where someone can come in and edit the script. I choose the forum route for my site, since it prohibits someone from editing someone elses post. I do like the wiki look for posting code though. Good luck with the site.

The trouble with a forum is that posts get lost. It would be silly to sticky everything.

Excellent idea - may I propose something?
Ask users to please comment their scripts well. If this is strongly recommended, the site could become great for those seeking to learn a new scripting language
Also, I'd run through a bunch of innocuous-yet-dangerous commands and bunches of commands on a page, just in case someone does decide to try and be malicious.

It's ok, I would HIGHLY recommend adding in a short description after the name of the script. "Devol" doesn't mean jack shit to me and having to click on every link for short description just seems so circa 1990's.

It's a great idea, and I think it could be a really nice replacement (or supplement) to this thread. The only thing I'm afraid of is some new Linux users finding some scripts on the wiki that have been edited to include malicious commands. There needs to be a warning on the main page. Perhaps some sort of thing could be wrangled to highlight certain commands that may be malicious (e.g. rm)?

Yeah definitely a good idea. Though a month later it looks a bit like activity is in danger of drying up (no recent changes in a week). I'll try adding some of my own concoction later tonight.

Yeah of course. Didn't mean to put down your efforts in any way - on the contrary.

How can I add a script? I can't create a new page, I've already registered.

Same as any wiki, I think: Just follow a link to http://scriptwiki.twilightlair.net/inde … _OF_SCRIPT and if the page doesn't exist you'll be prompted to created it.

Nice stuff, I plan to find something to contribute, but was wondering what the extent of "script" really is, would small C applications count? Technically not scripts, but are useful within scripts and can do things that you sometimes can't do in a scripting language. What's your opinion?
