GTK subtitle ripper?

I've searched through the repos and the AUR and I've only managed to find a single subtitleripper app, namely ksubtitleripper. Now a) I can't get the damn thing to install even with all of Qt3+Qt4+kdebase installed and b) I'd really rather not have all that KDE stuff.

So does anyone know of a non-Qt subtitleripper?  GTK, ideally, but even a freeware windows program that works in wine will do nicely.

EDIT:  Just to specify: I am talking about a program that will use OCR to convert SUB/VOB-integrated subtitle pitures to text (.srt) not subtitle editors of which there seem to be plenty...

Re: GTK subtitle ripper?

avidemux works wonderfully for ripping and converting subtitles.

Re: GTK subtitle ripper?

thanks for the tip. I have managed VOB->VobSub but VobSub->srt is giving me difficulty. What is this GlyphSet that it at first says is optional but later demands in order to continue?

Edit: Oh I figured it out - it's the one-for-one image-to-letter correlations. And I was presented with the options to save it immediately because the subtitle track I was trying to rip was empty.
