What doesn't work. Have you installed x86-video-intel? Do you have an xorg.conf? What does /var/log/Xorg.0.log say?

Re: Dell E5400 - getting it to work

I installed xf86-video-intel and I made a xorg.conf with hwd and then changed the driver to "intel" but it doesn't work

It doesn't work is a little vague? What kernel do you have installed. On my laptop, also with an x4500, it doesnt work it 2.6.27.5, it does however with 2.6.27.4

Re: Dell E5400 - getting it to work

arch installed 2.6.27.5 I'll try downgrading it (has to be through pkgbuild ? )

but still... what's the best way to make the xorg.conf? nvidia has an utility that does this automagically

edit2: well it works now... or at least it looks like it (with noaccel option...)

Re: Dell E5400 - getting it to work

Part 2 hehe

the wireless doesn't work quite well... i can't get an Ip address, even with open access points. what can cause this? the laptop has the Broadcom card. it's recognized and the modules are loaded, it also detects the networks fine.

another issue...
If I'm not connected to the internet, I can't use mpd, it fails to connect to the database because it can't find the host.
I edited the hosts files and the mpd.conf file but it still doesn't connect..

Re: Dell E5400 - getting it to work

You'd be better off creating a separate thread for each of your issues (and using more descriptive titles).

Regarding mpd.conf, the relevant section should look something like this:

bind_to_address "127.0.0.1"

There's no need to change the IP.

In general, if you need help with networking, etc., try to post your configs first (e.g. /etc/rc.conf) otherwise we won't know what you've already tried to do.
