Tools >> Appearance > skin
Have a look at 'color scheme' under the list of skins .

I had that problem with all QT apps because of a too general colorscheme in my ~/.Xdefaults.

black menu as in the background? what happened?
As suggested by Nezmer, you can try a new skin.

I think is not because of my Xdefaults, old version of opera work just fine!!!

I have the same problem, I tried different skins but the menus stay black. Changing the color scheme doesn't work either, all the other colors change but the menus remain black.

What do you mean menu's are black? My menu's arent black

It's probably .Xdefaults as byte said. I just had the same issue because I forgot to prepend URxvt to some new stuff I added. Just make sure everything in .Xdefaults begins with your terminal's name and run xrdb -load .Xdefaults.

I don't seem to have a file called .Xdefaults. Should I create it and if so, what else (if anything) should be in it?

If it's not ~/.Xdefaults, then it may be another file that is loaded as an X resources database, but first let's see if that is really true with:
xrdb -query
Anything start with a * or Opera?

Had the same issue, when I used "Darklooks" with gnome. Couldn't fix it, so I switched back to something brighter like Candido or Clearlooks, and the problem went away. What theme are you using?
Offline
I use xfce4 with xfce-cadmium theme. It's a bright theme and it works fine with my other programs but opera menus stay dark.

Opera uses qt4 for the GUI . So unless you are using qgtkstyle as a qt theme , your GTK themes are irrelevant .
You should check the colors from qtconfig . click the 'Tune palette' button and check all the colors .

Could you post your solution so others can benefit too?
The suggestion box only accepts patches.

I did have in my .Xdefaults a lot of entries with *colorX, just change those entries with URxvt*colorX and everything back to normal.

Does Opera even use the look suggested in QT Config? I'm thinking that it doesn't anymore (it didn't a few versions back)...
Sorry to hijack, this thread helped though, so thanks.

I think it does!!!

@voteforpedro36:
I think it doesn't!!! It uses a static build of qt, as far as I know.

This is a valid question . I think It does & It doesn't .
Test case :
1) Install qgtkstyle-svn from AUR .
2) In qtconfig : Choose GTK as a GUI style .
3) Test opera .
My own observations show that opera is affected by the settings in qtconfig but It doesn't follow them .
Another point that might be relevant : I'm keeping ~/.opera from the qt3 days so that could be the source of some weird behavior .

You should check the colors from qtconfig . click the 'Tune palette' button and check all the colors .
Changing color in the tune palette didn't change anything.

This doesn't change anything either.

I just deleted my .opera profile . You are absolutely right . Opera is not affected by the settings in qtconfig .
I checked Opera in ABS the other day and noticed that a patch named 'opera-qt4-theme.patch' is applied to the build . It would be great If the maintainer explained what the patch exactly do .

I figured it used a static version of QT, thanks for the confirmation.
