cool markc .. everything looks good to me .. but I'm no expert. Thanks very much for doing it so quick even if its not helping with the kopete issue at the moment its good to have the patched qt. I just used you pkgbuild to make it .. so they downloaded the latest source from svn. I noticed that I didn't applied the patch .. stopped the build and after applying the patch made a makepkg -e
So are you kinda forking or hacking plasma itself or building something new? How do you hack something this big to make something simpler? But keep us posted
I am trying on the kopete issue on the irc .. let you guys know if I found any solution.

@tahseen: if you install dev/mpkg then it can be even a little easier, especially if you build more than one package. For instance you can do a "mcfg re kdenetwork CMAKE_BUILD_TYPE Debug" and manually change -release to -debug in the qt-copy PKGBUILD, then "mpkg qt-copy;mpkg kdenetwork" and you should end up with proper debug binary packages in /home/packages/eth-os/kde-svn/(i868|x86_64). Then when something crashes you'll get a real backtrace that will actually be useful for the core KDE developers via http://bugs.kde.org.
No I'm not hacking on plasma, just on a light Qt-only window manager.
Another daily i686 build just got uploaded 1 minute ago, this lot is built against the patched qt-copy, which may or may not make any difference.

@markc, what have you done with repo!?!
I'm getting almost 1.5mb/s now

I noticed high memory usage by nepomuk services. I have 1gb of ram and normally i don't use any swap. But with nepomuk services running i get the used memory increases constantly, untill i stop nepomukservices. Maybe there is a memory leak? i'll search bugs.kde.org.

Does anyone have MSN working in kopete?
When I try and add an account using the WLM messenger plugin, I get the message "Cannot load the WLM Messenger protocol plugin."
Thanks for the packages btw.

I think you have to install libmsn from mark's dev repo
cheers
P.S. kde 4.2 is going to be very cool..go bugfixing,go!!

Well so much for applying Qt patches and whatever else, heh, now my desktop is completely borked. Even trusty old kmail crashes on me. I do hope it's just all the movement in the upstream repo with the newness of adding akonadi, nepomuk and strigi backends and not my builds.
If anyone thinks I might be doing something wrong with the builds then please let me know otherwise we just have to rough it out for another day or two... I'll try and build twice a day for a while. I guess for anyone that is really stuck and needs a working system, and have been regularly updating these packages, you can reinstall a set of packages from a week ago and comment out the kde-svn repos in /etc/pacman.conf. Something along the lines of pacman -Uf /var/cache/pacman/pkg/*20081122*.bz2 but it would require quite a bit of -Rd and -fing.
Hmm, I just remembered I'm running on top of qt-snapshot 4.5 so maybe I gets what I deserves and everyone else has a mostly working system.

Hey markc, just a suggestion... Could you recompile qt-snapshot without all the heavy multimedia dependencies (GStreamer *and* xine?) and put Phonon in a separate package? Thanks...

How does one prevent nepomukservices and strigi from starting? I just had to kill them on my machine. It was still indexing after 14 hours and was using half a Gb of memory and 87% of CPU.

System Setting->Advanced->Desktop Search --- go there and disble both nepomul and stringi
Markc .. it seems with the latest build .. kopete crahses are not happening anymore but krunner and dolphin keeps crashing.

Dolphin, krunner and Kontact (Kmail) work again after todays update.

Edit:// Sorry you are right! From Fluxbox I can use these apps... do you all have a completly crashing kde-trunk? If not I need to check my setup!

Oops karoshi .. forgot to tell ... someone at the irc told me to update the kdesupport and check and it worked I forgot to mention here
Even saw the fix in svn .. like a 4 line commit making all the difference.
Offline
@EvilSide: that's probably because I built it against qt-snapshot. A new build against qt-copy instead will be included in the update in a few hours. Thanks for the report.
@tahseen: which part of kdesupport was the fix for... akonadi?
Plasma stil crashes for me with 20081126 but at least kmail just picked up my IMAP mail for the first time in 48 hours. These last few days have probably been just about the worst state I've seen kde-svn in since I started back in February

I don't have any crashes at all. The only thing that was causing crashes was the notifications of kopete, but that was fixed (i guess with the patched qt). Maybe there are some plasmoids that cause you crashes people?
Offline
Fixed my problems.... was caused by xorg 1.5 from testing... mybe there went something wrong after the patches were applied.... with xorg from extra everythings fine again!
Thx markc, nice packages

@solid -- I'm running against xorg from testing local/xorg-server 1.5.3-2 without any problem.
@capthookb -- I'm also running without any crash after updating the kdesupport in today's build haven't had time for a full update
@markc -- its not official but looking at today's commit of kdesupport I think the fix was at soprano sever
http://lists.kde.org/?l=kde-commits&m=1 … 610594&w=4
The thing we called at java NullPointerException .. the most common kind of problem a null check
problem was it was in a very common path .. messing everything up
I'm gonna try making a full debug build and make everything at my machine from now on .. trying to get some stack trace and helping .. also thinking of hacking into kde at some point .. have been thinking of returning to some c++ coding and learning qt for while for trying out some desktop app... so why not start with kde to give the community some back
@markc any help in setting things up will be great ... do you stay in some irc channel or somewhere I can get you .. if you don't mind

@tahseen: building a debug set of binary packages from these source packages would go something like...
# SRCDEST and PKGDEST need to be uncommented in /etc/makepkg.conf
# the 2 dirs pointed to must exist and owned by your normal user ID
# [dev], [gui] and [kde-svn] repo sections are working and uptodate
# set up sudo - visudo and uncomment the %wheel NOPASSWD line
cd $SRCDEST ; svn checkout http://eth-os.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/ eth-os
sudo pacman -S mpkg
mcfg info # all fields should make sense
mcfg re kde-svn CMAKE_BUILD_TYPE Debug
nano /home/sources/eth-os/kde-svn/qt-copy/PKGBUILD # change -release to -debug
mcfg prio qt-copy 100 # so qt-copy builds first
mpkg kde-svn
Probably the best extra support option is to join http://groups.google.com/group/eth-os. I somehow have a habit of getting kicked out of irc channels.

Well well, I just started up kde-svn on my [core] based build machine and so far plasma has only crashed once but restarted by itself and an hour later nothing else has crashed. So it seems my unusable kde-svn regular desktop is probably due to both qt-snapshot and xorg 1.5 from [testing]. Things are not as bad as I thought and the overall experience, even with the nvidia driver and composite on by default, is very good.

Yes I can confirm this... nvidia+xorg 1.5 + qt-snapshot was very unstable.... use xorg 1.4 and nvidia from testing.... everything will be fine
