Hi!
I wanted to know how orignal Arch linux kernel is built. Are there any specific patches applied to vanilla kernel? Where to find them? Anything else to consider?
I was not able to find this info, but I didn't search it quite much though...
thanx for constructive answers

All answers are available by looking in kernel26 package PKGBUILD. If you use ABS then the file should be in /var/abs/core/kernel26. You can also access the file through Arch's webpage: http://repos.archlinux.org/viewvc.cgi/k … core-i686/ (if you search for "kernel26" on the main page, and then click the appropriate package and choose "View SVN Entries" you'll see that page.)
Patches used for Arch kernel can be find here: ftp://ftp.archlinux.org/other/kernel26/
The specific patch used for the current kernel: ftp://ftp.archlinux.org/other/kernel26/ … 1-ARCH.bz2
And here's a good general guide for kernel compilation in Arch: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ker … rom_Source

Thanks for quick reply, I'm aware of wiki's and so, this is far not the first time I compile a kernel, my concern was about patches and ArchLinux related stuff. Until this time I didn't have a need to compile specific kernel, but now I would like to try out reiser4 with Arch, so I need to apply patch.
Very informative reply, thanks.

Hi,
Sorry for disturbance again...
I've achieved what I needed for some time now, thanx, but now I have additional question
These patches (found here ftp://ftp.archlinux.org/other/kernel26/) are against vanilla kernel's very first release, for instance 2.6.27. As these patches are whole big incremental change since first release, what I would like to know is - is there a small only arch specific patch that can be applied for latest kernel version, eg. 2.6.27.10. What I'm looking for is actually just arch modifications to kernel. These patches are made by someone, how did he put them together (there should be some small patch, I think).
Is this a known process or I should contact maintainer?
thanx for constructive answers

Give what you have. To someone, it may be better than you dare to think.
