USB Mouse dies kills all usb ports

This only seems to happen (so far) when using Firefox....?
I had the problem in Ubuntu and fixed with boot kernel line addition of acpi=force irqroll
but I really don't want to do that again.
Further, closing lid puts in to suspend that cannot be recovered without removing battery for hard shutdown.
None of this happened before Sunday am pacman -Syu.
Does anyone know what I can do?

Re: USB Mouse dies kills all usb ports

Sorry for going a bit off, but you don't have to remove battery on most laps. Simply push and hold the power button for about 5 seconds and it will power down (hard shutdown, though)...

Re: USB Mouse dies kills all usb ports

I wish it would power off so easily. When I push & hold button for 4 secs, it blinks nicely, makes noises as if checking the optical drive, then returns to a nice black screen as before.  Only removing power cable and battery will reboot that I know of.

Re: USB Mouse dies kills all usb ports

Lid closure resolved (I don't know why).

I tired using acpi=force irqroll  and noacpi acpi=force irqroll but still having mouse shutdown.  Removed them.

Further, it seems related to Firefox, but not exclusively.  Will happen when moving mouse over refreshing windows.  Any ideas?

Re: USB Mouse dies kills all usb ports

Just wanted to bump this up to say that I'm having the same issue. In much the same way as tank, whenever my USB mouse is plugged in, some random amount of time later, all the USB ports fail simutaniously. I also had the same problem on Ubuntu, and their forums seem to think that the error is somehow related to the ATI card (??).

Any insights would be appreciated.

Re: USB Mouse dies kills all usb ports

After some more testing, it appears that it's not the direct fault of the USB Mouse. Even with that disconnected, the USB ports eventually fail during use.

The USB information seems sane and pretty generic, so I'm at a loss for what might be wrong.

hm, i have the same problem, but only when i plugin in an usb-mass-storage. sometimes it works, but mostly after some minutes all usb-products get "killed" and don't work.
