Xfce4 no utf8 support automounted usb flash drives by HAL

As the topic says. There is no problem with cd and external harddisks but the usb flash drives. How can i fix it?
Cause thats gonna make me crazy. How in the world utf8 can still be a problem for GNU/Linux operating systems. Why it isn't standart yet? It is system that used by world-wide and not everyone in the world speaks and writes English. It is very disappointing to see your files cannot be displayed properly.

Note: In Gnome we have not the utf8 support too. But i found that i could fix it by the gconf editor. In XFCE how can i do that?

Re: Xfce4 no utf8 support automounted usb flash drives by HAL

i just assume your USB pendrives use the vfat filesystem, so:

!!!!! utf8 is NOT RECOMMENDED for use with vfat !!!!!

but if you really want it:

1. mess with HAL to do it (i dunno how)

2. recompile Linux with utf8 as default iocharset for vfat

3. recompile Linux with codepage for vfat according to your country

(zgrep CONFIG_FAT /proc/config.gz shows you Archs' stock kernel settings, codepage 437 is US)

4. reformat your usb pendrives

compile exo by your self with some patches.

search exo in AUR, there is a exo-devel and exo-alt, they contain some useful patches.

recommoned exo-devel, just have a little modify with the depends and pkgver pkgname will be ok

i dont know, and someone had already metion this bug in offical bugzilla in an early time, but the problem is still there. maybe because not everyone's locale is the same utf8, and maybe they think it should be done by hal.
