[solved] KDE4 Device Notifier, no devices listed

Recently installed Arch linux and I'm having a bit of trouble with the kde device notification stuff.  When I insert a cd, usb stick, etc. kde seems to be entirely unaware.  Hal and dbus are both running, I'm in groups: hal, dbus, storage, and optical, and everything works fine mounting it by hand.  Nothing seems to be related to it in the ServiceManager (not sure if such a service exists).

Any ideas?
Thanks.

EDIT: Possibly related, there are no devices listed in the cdrom section of virtualbox.
Also on boot arch claims hal fails to start, I tested it using verbose and no-daemon however and saw no faulty behavior (and ps says it's running).

Oops, I missed an error to libvolume, ln -s /lib/libvolume_id.so.0 /lib/libvolume_id.so.1 did the trick.

If you did not mess it up yourself, you should report this as a bug: http://bugs.archlinux.org/
