Cannot get X out of VESA

After trouble with repos, I finally got xorg installed and then installed some other recommended packages such as kde.

I have an Intel integrated video chipset, 4500MHD so I installed xf86-video-intel.  The problem is I can't seem to get my xorg.conf file right.

I ran all of the methods in the wiki, xorg -configure, hwd -xa, etc.  However, I think I am still using the VESA driver.  when I start up kdm and log into kde, I am stuck at 1024x768, though my native resolution is 1280x800.  xorg.conf even states vesa.

How can I get x to use the intel driver to take advantage of my device?

Thanks,

Your xorg.conf is probably specifying vesa by default.  Change the "Driver" to "intel" under the "Device" section.

Have a look at the Intel Graphics ArchWiki for some more details.
