color scheme in a tv card

i have conxant bt878 tv-in card and use it vith v4l2 and xawtv plugins

i give it pal signal to the composite (yellow plug) input

but i cant get correct display with any of the color schemes i choose in settings !

correct display but grayscale : works with pal-nc and sometimes pal-m (intermittent)

running multiple grayscale frames : happens with all other pal
same thing with each frame colored in one of r/g/b : happens with all secam

top of screen is proper bottom of video (in grayscale though) and everything else is constant green : happens with all ntsc and sometimes pal-m

what is the problem with color ?

a standard tv plugged to the same signal detects it as pal and displays normal color video
