Wireless on Vostro 1000 not working.

So I've tried all of the ways on the wiki and even consulted Pyther and I still can't get it working. Using wl got my wifi indicator turning on and I was getting eth1 when I ran ifconfig -a, but none of the other way have worked at all.

Re: Wireless on Vostro 1000 not working.

Hi, I don't have this notebook so I can't help you directly, but I found this web:

http://ubuntu.flowconsult.at/en/dell-vostro-1000/7.10/

It's for Ubuntu but it should be applyable on Arch too.

Hope it work.

Re: Wireless on Vostro 1000 not working.

I didn't realize that the wifi light came on when you were using the wl driver.

Try this and see if it helps
1. Grab the wl driver from the broadcom-wl pkg in aur (run makepkg and install)
2. pacman -S wicd (if you don't already have it installed)
3. rmmod b44 b43 ssb (unload all networking modules)
4. modprobe wl (load broadcom wl module)
5. /etc/rc.d/wicd start (as root)
6. wicd-client (run from terminal as a user)
7. Click on system tray icon to bring up the wicd gui interface
8. Go to preferences and change the wireless interface to eth0 and wired interface to nothing (no text in the text box)
9. Click ok and then hit the refresh button
10. See if any networks show up and if so try to connect.

The link that was provided is quite old, many of these issues have been fixed in recent versions of the kernel, udev, and xorg.
