Doing a
pacman -R xf86-video-atisolved the problem. Now I'm waiting to see if the catalyst ATI drivers are going to work with the new xorg.

Same here
It's probably problem in combination of the new Xorg 7.4 and fglrx drivers ![]()

Ok now. Choosing an "Evdev-managed keyboard" layout from KDE System Setting-->Regional Settings solved the issue.

Should I just force the upgrade as baskin did? And what if I don't want to remove cairo-lcd?
Thank you for the answer in advance!
With best regards,

Well -f option did do fine in my case ![]()
Just change the keyboard type after update to evdev-managed keyboard in your enviroment(Gnome or KDE)as baskin said in a post above ![]()
Also comment line RgbPath "/usr/share/X11/rgb" in your xorg.conf if you have any-if you don't,your X will not start because this option/line is not anymore used in new release of the Xorg(7.4)
Sorry for crappy english ![]()

Hi all,
"similar" problems here too... (x86_64)
I've resolved the libfglrx_tvout.so.1 problem by deleting the symlink, after
that Rgb problem followed and finally I have no X window with latest catalyst
driver because X ends with a segfault.
Somebody has this problem too?

Hi,
I had the same problems after upgrading catalyst, I broke my X server. I simply removed catalyst and installed the xf86-video-ati driver.
I now have a strange problem. My keyboard follows the UK layout and even though the characters are mapped correctly when typing at a terminal or after I login, the mapping is wrong when I type my password. It should not be the normal US english mapping. Any ideas please ??
This was just a push to switch as I have an old card and I wanted to go fully open source ![]()
Cheers.

I have similar keyboard issues after pacman -Syu'ing today. My keyboard is already set to evdev-managed. But the up arrow key manages to send the print screen signal (so far as I can tell all other keys are working properly). I can't function with a keyboard like that. No access to bash history and I inadvertently forget when viewing a web page or something and hold down the up arrow key and about 20 print screen dialogs open up. What's the fix if the evdev-managed-keyboard option doesn't help? I want my keyboard back to normal!

Finally I installed esound on my own, then renamed /usr/lib/libfglrx_tvout.so.1 to /usr/lib/libfglrx_tvout.so.1.backup, then yaourt -Syu again. When i restarted X could not start due to a bad xorg.conf configuration. I removed one line that was causing a parse error and everything seemed to work again, even my multimedia keys finally worked!! The bad news are that resizing/maximizing windows is veeery slow and glxgears gives me 395 fps when i used to get 20000. I'm starting to think this rolling release thing is not such a good idea. Probably I will format and install everything again and then I will forget the -Syu forever.

What is recommended to do here? Will this update issue be fixed later, or should I just force the update?
Exams are coming up, so I don't have time to fix major possible issues that might come from a botched forced update.

The X on my laptop got pretty screwed after the last update too. That kindof caught me by suprise, Ive been running -Syu for a while now and its always been fine, but now suddenly it was all broken. My own mistake though, didn't read pacman logs or nothing, and there I was with the CLI login view and no wireless
Got some stuff working again (like keyboard) thanks to links, the arch wiki and some forum posts here, but I'm also thinking that a reinstall might be in order. Then I'll just uncomment the testing repo, so that I'll get used to this kind of stuff ![]()
Im reading posts that its perhaps even more fun to run -Syu on a system with fglrx. Cant wait to ruin my ATI box aswell ![]()

Here's what restored my up arrow key to more normal behavior:
Section "ServerFlags"
Option "AutoAddDevices" "False"
EndSectionin /etc/X11/xorg.conf
Found that advice in the thread "xserver 1.5 and KDE 4 keymaps - strange behavior".

After an -Syu I've also had to comment out the RgbPath line in xorg.conf & turn off hotplugging (as I don't use HAL) to deal with the new xserver.
I also had the ATi driver problems, & forced the install, the only real problem that I have now is that my screen refresh is slow.
i.e. If I change workspaces there is a longer lag if going to a screen with something open on it. & using the mouse wheel to scroll through screens is so clumsy now that it is useless.
If I downgrade my ATi drivers I expect I'll have to do the same to the xserver?
I used to be surprised that I was still surprised by my own stupidity, finding it strangely refreshing.
Well, now I don't find it refreshing.
I'm over it!

So this is what i did to update xorg:
pacman -R xf86-video-ati
mv /usr/lib/libfglrx_tvout.so.1 /usr/lib/libfglrx_tvout.so.1.old
pacman -SyuRight after upgrade is done, open xorg.conf and comment out the line RgbPath "/usr/share/X11/rgb" and add the line Option "AutoAddDevices" "False" to Section "ServerFlags".
The only unusual thing left is that i can't use vertical scrolling on my trackpad. But i think i can live without it for a while.
Edit: By following synaptics wiki entry scrolling is now working.

Good advice, which I maybe should have followed, but there's a reason I'm running a rolling release distro like Arch -- I want the latest and most up to date version of everything. (without having to compile from source) ![]()
That said, I ran the update procedure in lamnk's last post. I have a working X... kinda. The resolution was set to 1280x1024 (native on this screen is 1680x1050). I changed the resolution in Gnome, and it works after login, but GDM is still kinda messed up. Font sizes all got kinda tiny everywhere, but I actually don't mind it that much.
The worst problem I have is that sometimes after logging out my screen gets all weird with different RGB colors and the only thing I can do is restart the computer.
Anyone else have this issue?
