i915GM HD Video

I've been trying to get this to work for months, but I can't. I have two systems, both with the i915GM chipset. With the old xf86-video-i810 driver, I was able to set:

LinearAlloc "8192"

in the xorg.conf This allowed full sized 1080p (or at least 1080i) MPEG2 to play smooth in MythTV, at aroun 60-70% CPU usage.

With xf86-video-intel (which we're now *forced* to use, the old i810 won't compile with the new Xorg) this option returns a "option not used" in the Xorg log file. And not surprisingly, HD videos won't play back smooth anymore with 99% CPU usage.

Am I missing something? Do I need to recompile something differently? I can't update my main Myth front end box until I get this working...

It may not be of help but I have just installed archlinux x86_64 on my intel mobo using the i810 module...not the intel.

As I attempt to Syu, I get the instruction to replace the i810 with the intel...I say no to that.

I installed xorg.conf with hwd -x and confirmed that i810 was in use.

You may have a similar experience if you attempt to replace the intel with the i810 module.

Hmmm...I hadn't thought to tell it not to update it. Perhaps I'll try to just reinstall the i810 driver and see what happens to it.

Although I would like to actually get the intel driver to work.

I believe this is what I have installed. I've also considered trying the 2.5.0 (I think I saw 2.5.1 somewhere too?) driver using abs to compile it.

I did try re-installing the i810 from my pacman cache, but X wouldn't even start. The i810 threw and error and X said no screens found.

The way I initiated i810 was to remove xorg.conf from /etc/X11.

Then, reinstall xorg.conf using hwd -x which initiated xorg.conf.i810 in /etc/X11.

X would then start whereas previously it would not start.

When I ...Syu... I get told to replace i810 with the new intel but I answer no.
