Laptop Wireless

Hey guys, here's my issue:
My laptop (HP zd7140 IIRC) has integrated Broadcom 802.11b/g wireless.  I grabbed ndiswrapper and the correct driver... everything detects correctly (I suppose) - well I get a valid wlan0 device.  No log errors and ndiswrapper recognizes the device.  However, the little "wireless on" button on the laptop will not work, I figured it was hardwired, however i get atkbd module errors that the keypress is not recognized....

Without this, I cannot get the wireless working properly... I have tried using "iwconfig wlan0 power on" but that doesn't work....

Also, I came across a Linux project for programatically turning some wireless cards on and off, but it doesn't support mine and I'm not sure that's the right path to take....

Any ideas / thoughts?
