After the new Xorg update, I was prompted to replace xf86-video-i810 with xf86-video-intel. Unfortunately, this driver doesn't seem to work with my 845G chip. I can get X to start by using Vesa, but it will only run under 16-bit 640x480 resolution, which isn't quite what I'm looking for.
I've seen other threads talking about it not working, but they all seem to not help me. I have a tiny hard drive, so I clear out my pacman cache all the time. I tried to reinstall the xf86-video-i810 package, but it doesn't work with Xorg, which I can't find a way to downgrade.
When it crashes, it has a weird error, "28 wanted 32" or some such (Edit: "space: 24 wanted 32"), which makes no sense to me. If anyone could help I'd really appreciate it. I tried it without an xorg.conf, too, but no luck
I'm going to add my xorg.conf and log in an edit, so please bear with me. I have to reboot with my Vesa settings first (I'm in elinks right now.)
Edit:
- Xorg.0.log
- xorg.conf
- Vesa xorg.conf (doubt it will be helpful, but to be complete...)

What do you mean by "doesn't work"? Does X even not start or it crashes after a while of usage?!?
You might try to use XAA instead of EXA since the later seems to still be buggy.
BTW, it works here (945GM too) and has worked since the first versions of „xf86-video-intel"?
Here's mine xorg.conf http://paste.lisp.org/display/71366

It won't start at all. It just prints that long line of text in the log, then says "space: 24 wanted 32" and "Fatal server error: lockup", then sends me back to the terminal

Thanks for the tip. I'll try that, and I'll try to see if any of your other settings can help me out.

I'm scared that it might work on every chip except for mine. I have 845G (82845G/GL[Brookdale-G]/GE Chipset Integrated Graphics Device).:/
Edit: Thank you so much!
I didn't even have to look through the file--whatever you had in your xorg.conf made it work without any changes. I still have to move my keyboard settings into the new file, but it works perfectly! Even my mouse is working perfectly, which actually confuses me since I had to do some crazy stuff to get it working a few days ago. Anyway, you're a lifesaver.
May happiness follow you, wherever you go.

I have the same problem explain above, a system update got rid of my proper xorg driver. I also have the 845G
I tried to add the "xaa" option. it helped me access a normal 1024x768 resolution, but the screen is all black. I cannot see one thing.
any idea what else could be wrong?
I tried using various xorg.conf config, it is the best I got. I wish I could simply downgrade
