system tray corruption (kde-mod 4)

I've got kde-mod 4 running on my Aspire One.  At start-up (and until shut-down, if I don't fiddle with it), the icons in the system tray are corrupted.  Instead of the actual icons, they get painted as portions of the surrounding area.  I like my tray in the panel, so that usually means the icons are portions of the clock and/or battery applet.

I heard about running "kwin --replace" from krunner or konsole to fix it, but all it did was change my problem.  Well, it's still the same problem, but instead of being painted as the surrounding area, they don't seem to get painted at all.  Right now, I just have square "holes" in my system tray (through the panel) exposing parts of my wallpaper.

Not having this problem on my Thinkpad.  Aside from drivers (it has an X1300 running xf86-video-radeon), the two machines have an identical software stack, top-to-bottom.  Is this an Intel driver issue or did I manage to bork something?

by the way, I have the following repos (if it matters): core, extra, testing, community, kdemod-core, kdemod-extragear, kdemod-playground, kdemod-legacy.

Thanks.

I also get this with the KDE 4 from the extra repo. Native KDE tray icons (usually only kmix) seem okay, but the Psi icon tends to get corrupted.

Re: system tray corruption (kde-mod 4)

I found this thread after using the search function and it was the only one I found about that problem. I have the same problem, sometimes the background of the tray icons is just pure black, which would be acceptable if it would be like that all the time, but most of the time it looks like 2 or more icons are stacked on each other, it is just ugly.

Turning of compositing doesn't help. I have a ATI Mobility X700 and I use the open source driver for it, compositing works fine, only the system tray shows these graphic bugs, so I don't know what to do.

edit: Oh, just saw that this is about kdemod4, I use vanilla KDE4, same problem.

I think trayer can do what you want. All in all, I find it to be superior to stalonetray.

just found that thread, having an AA1 on my own, systray corruption only shows up on desktop effects enabled, but there are definitly no when effects are off. using custom build kernel for the aa1

Re: system tray corruption (kde-mod 4)

I have intel x3100 card and I have same problem. Or worse. I tried a cairo-dock tray applet and trayer and I have problem on all these programs. I think it's Intel drivers problem

Re: system tray corruption (kde-mod 4)

also found out that on the AA1 if you remove the "MigrationHeuristic" "greedy" systray should be okay again, without corruption!
