IM

is there any good multi protocol IM for linux? I tried gaim now but don't really like it... I want the messages to not popup as conversations, I like the old icq style where they only flashes in the buddy list. is there a plugin for gaim that does this? or any other client? the ideal would be like miranda for linux!

miranda in linux would be a sweet dream smile
I've tried to emulate it, but I couldn't make it work that good hmm

Re: IM

nope, gaim doesn't function this way, there are no preferences for it to work just like icq. it annoyed me too at first, but i just got used to it. it works more like msn, yahoo, and aim.

off the top of my head, you could also try licq, centericq, sim, ...
here's a list of projects on freshmeat that have something to do with ICQ.

I tried a bunch, but I kept coming back to gaim.

Re: IM

With KDE comes Kopete... I use it for jabber, icq, yahoo, aim and msn... it also supports other protocols such as IRC and gadu-gadu.

Unfortunately I only have like 2 people on my ICQ list, so I can't really tell if the feature you're looking for is there.
