Xorg cursor keys problem

After the newest upgrade (around 700 mb cause i didn't upgraded for a week), cursor keys aren't working. Tried removing xorg.conf, but nothing.
Using ati free drivers.

If it ain't broke, broke it then fix it.

Re: Xorg cursor keys problem

Read the keyboard section of http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xor … otplugging

You need to change the model to evdev, search on wiki for 10-keymap.fdi edit the file and change the model and restart hal.

That solved for me, I hope it solve your problem too.

(PS. before posting any xorg related question search the forum and the wiki, much information is already posted)

Re: Xorg cursor keys problem

What can I do if the keyboard model "Evdev-managed keyboard" is not shown in the list in KDE?
At the moment, I have the following situation:
- German keyboard
- keyboard layout DE activated in KDE with 105 key keyboard model
Arrow keys not working, AltGr not working - so the pipe isn't available, too.
a) I'm not familiar with vi - is there any other editor which I can use without arrow keys to edit the config files to change the keyboard setting to "de" instead of "us"?
b) How can I get the missing entry "Evdev-managed keyboard" in the KDE keyboard selection list?
c) What other steps are necessary to get keytouch working again?

Sorry, but I think upgrading a package which influences the keyboard that way without having an at least semi-automatic transfer of the old settings is no good idea. I think there are lots of users lost without working arrow keys on the keyboard which they need to use an editor to change the default configuration sad

And yes, I read the wiki.

Re: Xorg cursor keys problem

Edit the files on linux console using your preferred text editor. X is not very "stable", you need to know you way without it to solve that kind of problem.

Re: Xorg cursor keys problem

The problem is that arrow keys (up, down etc.) are not working (so how do I move down in the file to a specific line?). That makes the use of nano, mcedit, joe etc. very difficult.
I just managed editing xorg.conf from a live cd linux and disabled the new mechanism.

What! How a X problem make you virtual console not usable,i.e. agetty a term without X? You used a live cd when you already have a terminal to work ^_^', this is what I'm talking about not depending to much on X.
