Frets on Fire - Fonts invisible

Every so often I really like rocking myself out on frets on fire cool Unfortunately, the game would crash quite often (it seemed to crash every time it tried to load a preview song, and I focused another song in the menu at the same time). Anyway, I decided to do a reinstall.

After the reinstall (with yaourt -S fretsonfire), frets would run, but the font's are invisible! So I can navigate through the menu (without seeing what I am doing though), and even play a song (I can't see the score however). The only characters I can see are the ones in the "Frets on Fire" title above the menu.

When I start frets from the terminal the output is this (besides this warning, I do hear the sound correctly):

[lldmer ~]$ fretsonfire
there is no soundcard
there is no soundcard

Because the fonts are invisible, I thought it might have something to do with the fontpaths in my xorg.conf. I think however frets uses the fonts located in it's own directory. But here is my xorg.conf to be on the save side (I use a radeonHD 4850):

Re: Frets on Fire - Fonts invisible

*cough* yaourt -S fretsonfire-alarian-mod Give that one a shot, it's much better (more features etc) and it works fine for me and everyone else that uses it (AFAIK, no comments with problems) (I maintain it smile)

Re: Frets on Fire - Fonts invisible

The alarian-mod does work for me:)

Still weird fretsonfire can't find those fonts...

Re: Frets on Fire - Fonts invisible

Yeah, it's weird, but prbably justy a missing dependency in the fretsonfire PKGBUILD. FoFiX's (new name for alarian mod) only dependencies are sdl and sdl-mixer (I believe, ldd says no dependencies but it never works for me without those packages last time I tried), while the regular frets on fire official binary is dynamically linked instead of statistically (I think that's the names for it tongue)

Re: Frets on Fire - Fonts invisible

For me, it is the other way round. The normal fretsonfire is working, but the alarian-mod is not. Console is giving the following output: "there is no soundcard".

There is an error when installing the game:

(1/1) Installiere fretsonfire-alarian-mod [#####################] 100%
/tmp/alpm_2PoF54/.INSTALL: line 14: syntax error near unexpected token `}'
/tmp/alpm_2PoF54/.INSTALL: line 14: `}'

Run 'fretsonfire' to start the game. To add songs to the game, either add them to '/opt/FoFiX/data/songs/' or '~/.fretsonfire/songs/'

If it ever doesn't work, try removing ~/.fretsonfire/fretsonfire.ini

Re: Frets on Fire - Fonts invisible

The no soundcard thing is normal. I've never seen it not do that tongue And sound always works fine. The line 14 error shouldn't prevent it from working, I made some major changes in the install fine last release so I probably did something wrong, but it should still work. I'll look into it. What isn't working about it? It just doesn't open?

Re: Frets on Fire - Fonts invisible

I have the normal version installed at the moment, so i can't look at it right now. But as far as i can remember, there was absolutely no sound and the screen was black with white fonts. Don't know if it should look like this, but it was looking really strange. :-)

Re: Frets on Fire - Fonts invisible

ok, i tried it again, since you changed your package in AUR. Thanks a lot!
Now it starts with sound, but can't load the three standard songs.

It gives the following error:

error: Couldn't read from '/home/kde4/.fretsonfire/songs/bangbang/guitar.ogg'

Re: Frets on Fire - Fonts invisible

You sure the file's there? The Alarian Mod doesn't come with any default songs, so you gotta get them on your own. That's probably left over from an old installation. (Dejavu, I answered this once on AUR comments I belive tongue)

Re: Frets on Fire - Fonts invisible

That was exactly the reason, and you are totally right that you are repeating yourself tongue
