[SOLVED] I ran into a strange icon problem a few days back....

I had certain apps that use to have icons shown in the toolbar. After an update they all of a sudden only showed text.

These are a few of the apps that are only showing text and no icons:

deluge-svn
file-roller
gedit
ristretto

This is how the toolbars missing the icons look:

This happens with every gtk theme and icon theme I have including the default ones.

Try loading gconf-editor and setting /desktop/gnome/interface/toolbar_style to "both"

[SOLVED] Thanks, It turned out that my xfce4 "User Interface Preferences" had accidentally been clicked to the text setting instead of icons..... I had looked all over for that preference and had forgotten where it was located.

So you were right in a way, except I don't use gnome so I had to locate the similar setting in: User Interface Preferences-->--Toolbar Style-->--Icons

I had thought the worst since I had the setting originally on the default Icons setting and it had accidentally been clicked onto Text without my knowing so I thought maybe I did something wrong while installing or updating.

Sorry for waisting peoples time.
