i've never managed to get the internal microphone (on the side of the screens) work in linux - works in windows.
I'm wondering if anyone has had any luck with ALSA and this sound card??
I have alsa v1.0.18

Check here http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=60197 , not exactly the same problem but related .... this high definition codecs ...... more of a curse than a bless. I have my own quarrel with the one in my laptop too. Best of luck trying to sort this out.
Also I don't know if you have used the builtin mic a lot (in windows) but my experience tells me that builtin mics are worthless (they pickup your voice and all the noise around, including your typing mouse clicks and maybe even the fan working), get a headset and the people on the other side of the chat will thank you . Maybe you can consider getting a usb headset, no more hassle of trying to get the HD Audio driver / codec to cooperate in making things work (do a little research first to see if it works well in linux though).

Give what you have. To someone, it may be better than you dare to think.
