I just installed a fresh copy of Arch on my new DELL desktop PC with dmraid using RAID 0. The installation itself went until I did a pacman -syu. Then dmraid was updated and running dmraid -ay returned nothing. So I downgraded to the old dmraid the CD and did dmraid -ay again and then I rebooted. Now I get a kernel panic when I try to boot saying "can't initialise /init". Did I forget to run mkinitcpio -p because I moved dmraid up in the HOOKS line. Another problem I had was during the update )pacman -Syu) I had to hold klibc back because a bunch of files that were already installed from somereason that Arch couldn't remove.

PS. After the kernel panic, it writes I should try to add /init= in the kernel line of grub but I don't know equal to what?

need few more details to help :
The installation itself went until I did a pacman -syu
when did you do a pacman -Syu ? in the installed system after rebooting after installation ? so your system was working, right ?
I moved dmraid up in the HOOKS line
please give us your HOOKS line
is the "fallback" option booting fine ?
Another problem I had was during the update )pacman -Syu) I had to hold klibc back because a bunch of files that were already installed from somereason that Arch couldn't remove.

I did the pacman -Syu after rebooting after the initial installation of the core system was done (means no sound or xorg was installed yet). So yes, the system was working.
No, the fallback line isn't even working I get the same error.
The hooks line says HOOKS="udev ... filesystems dmraid" can't remember the rest (between udev and filesystems) but I only added the dmraid to the hooks line. Then I moved it up HOOKS="udev ... dmraid filesystems" before I rebooted again and my system went haywire.
