DVD rw drive

Hi,

I have a Acer aspire laptop with a cd/dvd rw. My problem with this drive is that i only can play preburned cd's and nothing else. When i try to burn a audio cd or a movie dvd or something else, i get the error that there's no cd/dvd writer found.  When i look with hwd -e i can't see it either:
