[SOLVED] More Xorg Vs. Synaptics

Hi, I hope someone can help. My touchpad doesn't work at all. It did before Xorg update but now doesn't, even after following the wiki and some threads on this forum and I cannot find what i'm doing wrong. The facts:

1. I have a two years old Dell Inspiron 6400.
2. If I disable hotplugging everything works as before, that means no multimedia keys, and now I'm pretty happy with them.
3. I didn't have the /usr/share/hal/fdi/policy/10osvendor/11-x11-synaptics.fdi file so I copied it to/etc/hal/fdi/policy/10osvendor/11-x11-synaptics.fdi from here and here, as said in the wiki, none worked.

Re: [SOLVED] More Xorg Vs. Synaptics

Downgrade xf86-input-synaptics to synaptics. This is the most trouble-free method IMO.

Re: [SOLVED] More Xorg Vs. Synaptics

I've got the same laptop working fine with input hotplugging. It seems you missed the point of input hotplugging--you don't need to specify your input devices in xorg.conf anymore.

Here's my xorg.conf:

Section "ServerLayout"
        Identifier "X.org Configured"

Well, thanks both. By now I only tried pointone solution... but it didn't solve neither screw up anything.

May the problem be in my rc.conf?

I think the interesting thing is that it says:

Re: [SOLVED] More Xorg Vs. Synaptics

Do you have the package xf86-input-synaptics installed?

'synaptics' was replaced by 'xf86-input-synaptics'.

Otherwise, I'm stumped!
