[SOLVED] How to register on #archlinux IRC channel?

Hello,

Tonight I tried to ask a question on the #archlinux channel on FreeNode.

I tried asking a question, and got an automated response that I should register with NickServ (/msg nickserv help register)

I found this wiki page: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Irc
The wiki page says "The channel is currently +R. That means that you have to register and identify with the NickServ service before you can talk in the channel."

So, I tried typing multiple variations of
/msg nickserv help register
/msg nickserv help identify

And I wasn't able to register.  I tried some variations of:

/msg NickServ REGISTER password <myemail>

And that didn't help either.

Any suggestions?

Thank you very much.

As an aside, I used xchat on Arch to log in to the chat server.

  pacman -S xchat

The problem might have been the IRC client I was using (xchat-gnome on Ubuntu).

Then again, might have been User Error :-)
