several firefox problems

is anyone being affected by these?

1. when it asks to save a password it asks twice everytime!
2. sometimes the direction keys inc. home end and sursor keys don't work - they don't as a i type
3. ctrl+t has stopped working?

Re: several firefox problems

1: Same here.

2: Never had that, until today, after reading your post... (No, I didn't upgrade anything.)

3: Ctrl+t works fine for me.

There are several other funny glitches with Firefox though, I forget to make a list of them everytime I encounter one. (Like text being selected while ti shouldn't sometimes, copying text in Nedit drives Firefox crazy when doing input, Firefox adding ghost seperators when moving bookmark elements with copy&paste and some other things.)

And flash stopped working a while ago (no idea when, I just noticed it recently). The flash plugin is listed in about:plugins but doesn't do anything. Adding the link to it manually doesn't fix it. Java works though.

1 doesn't happen with the precompiled ver I d/l from mozilla. Only notice that double password screen with archs package..  Can't vouch for any other distros package jsut the package from archs repo and mozilla's ftp server...

Yes, number 2 was an irritant.  I couldn't use arrow keys even in webforms (like the one I'm typing in now).

The quick fix for me was to delete the 'compreg.dat' file in "~/.mozilla/firefox/default.ruk/".  I believe the PR2 release coming out will fix that.

Re: several firefox problems

With Firefox 1.0 PR (or 0.10 if you prefer) I can't even add new bookmarks... Pretty annoying sad

Re: several firefox problems

Firefox .10 has a serious problems with importing settings.  There are two solutions:
1)  Remove ~/.mozilla/firefox and everything will work fine
2)  Search the AL Bug Tracker for Firefox and find a solution that will take some effort

I just removed the config and things work fine.

1. when it asks to save a password it asks twice everytime!

That's because it asks separately to save login and password.

Another bug is you can't save any preferences.  Fedora is being affected by theses bugs too.

Refer to my older post.  firefox .10 has a major importing setting bug from firefox .9 or less.

Re: several firefox problems

I have a problem with deleting my .mozilla/firefox folder, if that folder is deleted all my book marks, extensions and what not are deleted.

Re: several firefox problems

Do this:

mv .mozilla mozilla

then start the new firefox, choose "File / import"
Choose bookmarks and then point to your old moved mozilla directory.

After the import, remove your old mozilla directory. wink
You'll have lost all your passwords, but it's really worth it. The new mozilla firefox handles stored passwords much better than the old one.

Re: several firefox problems

Hi,

it seems this is part of the solution:
http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?t=7253
delete this file and check if things are working again. Btw. if you kill
~/.mozilla you dont only loose your bookmarks also thunderbird is hosting
the emails in this folder AFAIK, or all the cookies for forums and bugtrackers
your passwords etc will be gone

Yep you loose everything.  Because of the way mozilla handled the changes from .9 to 1.PR I've since switched to Opera.  So far no problems.
