Sound not working [Solved]

WAV sound files work under root, flash videos do not have sound under root.

When trying to play a wav while not root, i get the following error (flash video's sound doesnt work under root:

merlin$ aplay /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav

ALSA lib confmisc.c:768:(parse_card) cannot find card '0'
ALSA lib cond.c.3513:(_snd_config_evaulate) function snd_func_card_drver returned error: no such file or directory
ALSA lib confmisc.c:1251:(snd_func_refer) error evaluating name
ALSA lib conf.c:3512:(_snd_config_evaluate) function snd_func_refer returned error: No such file or directory
ALSA lib conf.c:3985:(snd_config_expand) Evaluate error: No such file or directory
ALSA lib pcm.c:2202(snd_pcm_open_noupdate) Unknown PCM default
aplay: main:590: audio open error: No such file or directory
---------------

ive tried the alsamixer and alsaconf, along with loading the modules as it says so in the sound portion of the wiki, and restarting my computer.  I still dont have sound.  help?

Module: snd_hda_intel

Command:
merlin$ ls -l /dev/snd

yields a controlC0 and pcmC0D0p

and no, its not muted.

Command:
not_root@merlin$ alsamixer
alsamixer: finction snd_ctl_open failed for default: No such file or directory

Command:
root@merlin$ alsamixer
works.

I added the non root user to the sound card group, but im still getting the same errors. [

I assume you mean the 'audio' group?

Do you have a ~/.asoundrc? This can be used to override /etc/asound.conf on a per-user basis.

For lack of better words: chair, never, toothbrush, really. Ohw, and fish!

its working.

Thanks.

Upon restart, the sound is muted though.  Any workarounds for this?
