Gnome 2.8

I just finished upgrading to Gnome 2.8 and I must say I'm quite impressed, it just works.  As a long time Slackware user, it's nice using a distro that's this up-to-date and works so well.  After Gnome upgraded it was a matter of installing dbus and hal and running them from /etc/rc.d.  Good job.

Re: Gnome 2.8

Question: did you manage to get the automatic mounting of USB storage and the execution of a command upon connection of a digital camera to work? If so, how did you do it? The CD mounting thing works for me, but not the other ones.

Re: Gnome 2.8

the key to debuging gnome-volume-manager is running in a console.
it will spew errors it makes it's more easy to configure.

Re: Gnome 2.8

I experienced only a minor problem when upgrading to 2.8. Evolution crashed during migration to 2.x. So when I restarted the app there was a duplicate of every mail.

Also, why the hell does Evolution 1 and 2 different startup-bins? Nobody wants to run 1.4 anymore anyway smile. This caused some links to point to the wrong binary, for example the icon in my gnome starter applet. This is not Arch's fault, but it's still annoying.

Re: Gnome 2.8

WTF? It looks like my mime info is messed up or something. Everything's opened in a KDE program(music, pdf, etc)

For some reason i had to delete all my .gnome* dir's in my home directory for my desktop to show up when upgrading to 2.8   granted i upgraded like the 2nd day it was in testing so maybe that's fixed by now... but I dunno....

Re: Gnome 2.8

I just upgraded to Gnome 2.8 last night. Things went smooth! Nice work Blaasvis.

The only thing I have to report is that my 2 gnome 2.6 problems are still present in gnome 2.8 (splashscreen not disappearing by itself after putting an ap in sessions ->startup and the yellow line on the right after launching an app from the panel).
