A couple of sound problems

Problem 1) I can't hear anything unless my speakers are cranked as loud as they can go, and even then the sound is usually barely audible. I checked alsamixer, it's at 100%, what can I do to make it louder?

Problem 2) For some unknown reason, I can't get any sound on some videos, including when I'm watching a DVD on my computer or trying to watch most of my anime. I tried installing any codec I could find, but that hasn't helped. Any ideas?

Thanks for any input on either problem.

Re: A couple of sound problems

It almost sounds like it's not using the right sound card.  What does alsamixer say the card is?  Have you disabled the pcspkr and snd_pcsp in your /etc/rc.conf MODULES array?  Some people, including myself, had their sound cards hijacked by snd_pcsp after a kernel upgrade awhile ago--a shot in the dark maybe. wink
