I've blocked off hotplugging and downloaded tpb. And installed it according to the Arch wiki article. But it doesn't mention anything of configuration or configuring it for gnome.
Currently, only a few things work, such as the keyboard light, brightness. The rest are still a no-go. Do I add tpb to sessions or something?

Well you could make a script following the wiki and add it to startup sessions, or have you seen http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/IBM_Thinkpad_T61 where they use xmodmap or xbindkeys?
Edit: My old T21 buttons worked out of the box, BTW, without tpb.

There shouldn't be any reason to learn more editor types than emacs or vi -- mg (1)

My T61p worked out of the box as well. But after the xorg update, it all just went splat. I'll try the xmodmap.
I just don't really understand why an update has to spoil everything that we have to use workarounds. *sigh*

I guess alot of times trying to keep up with newer hardware makes our older stuff not work. How can you prevent that?? I must admit I disabled hotplugging so my third trackpoint button for scrolling would work--too lazy to experiment with evdev for now.

So the proper xorg 7.4 was supposed to use evdev with hal?

Edit: Sorry, I forgot what you wrote in your OP. Must be this damned head cold.

that's the same wiki I got with the initial xorg keyboard problem. I guess more reading is in order.
As for the xmodmap, do I add xmodmap to the Sessions or xcapkeys?

I don't use it so I'd just guess that what it says in the T61 wiki link I posted would be what you do:
"Use pacman to install xmodmap, then create a text file ~/.Xmodmap and put this in it: ... etc. etc."
I'm getting so confused...:/

Well, I did a "yaourt xmodmap" and xkeykaps came out.. I'll try xmodmap, then.
