Installation hangs

I'm trying to install Archlinux the 64-bit version. I downloaded the image and burned to a cd but when I boot from it it hangs after grub. It hangs on the line beginning "SLUB:" It also says on this line "cpus=4" I have amd turion processor with two cpus. I really want to give arch a try as I've heard only good things about it. So if anyone can help, please do. Thanks.

Re: Installation hangs

try booting with noapic and acpi=off (on the worst case).
Luck with the boot !

They say that if you play a Win cd backward you hear satanic messages. That's nothing! 'cause if you play it forwards, it installs windows.

Re: Installation hangs

ok thanks guys the acpi=off option worked. I didn't check the md5sum test but out of interest how would one do that? also what exactly does acpi=off do? does it turn off these features

OS-directed configuration, power management, and thermal management of mobile, desktop, and server platforms.

and so is i at all dangerous for a latop (i.e. allowing overheating or something)

Thank you both very much for your help anway.
