Hello there! I bearly got arch linux installed in my machine. Managed to install most of my drivers so far, however I can't manage to make my USB automount and appear in the desktop. It won't automount the CDs that i put inside, or even show the icon of the cd/dvd rom in the computer place, i don't even know how to mount it manually. I do know how to manually mount the usb flash drive, but the icon does not appear in the desktop or the Computer place. I have GNOME. can someone please help me?

Is HAL installed and in your rc.conf daemon array? Is your cdrom commented out of fstab?

I dunno about Gnome as I use KDE.
I'm lazy and do things graphically so I access through konqueror.
To mount my cd/dvd's/floppy I open Konq, press the up arrow key until I'm at /.
The cd's/dvd/s/floppy can be mounted manually in /dev, at least with KDE and I'd assume it would be the same through Gnome.

what version of hal do you have?
Give what you have. To someone, it may be better than you dare to think.

Version
hal-0.5.11-4

Remove the dbus entry in your DAEMONS array--Hal will autostart dbus, and having both entries defined can cause problems.
It's been a while since I ran GNOME, but I'm pretty sure you also need the 'gnome-volume-manager' package installed to enable automount behaviour.

yup, CD/DVD/USB worked but not anymore (no changes to rc.conf).
resorted to editing /etc/fstab and placed CD/DVD/USB icons on my desktop.
