I am new to this, I installed the system configured my wired connection the wirless I still don know how. So I was trying to install gnome and following the directions the first thing is update pacman so I ran # pacman -Syu and in the middle of the download the screen just goes black.
Has this happened to anyone?

I have to ask the obvious question: you did check it's not just your monitor power cable that got loose?

Are you sure that this isn't some sort of power saving mode?
If I remember correctly, my monitor blacked out as well during first update because of inactivity.
All you have to do is hit a key on your keyboard.
And forgive me if you consider this stupid, I work with tech support
