After installing Arch on an Eee pc 900 using a USBpendrive, I can't get an internet connection.
So now I'm stuck at the point where I have to download a custom kernel.
Very sorry but the beginners guide is not clearing it up for me.
I'm not even sure an ethernetcard or something is detected.
Any ideas??
All I have is this:
ifconfig -a:
Link encap: Local Loopback
inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0
UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:16436 Metric:1
RX packets:2512 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
Tx packets:2512 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
collisions:0 txqueuelen:0
RX bytes:194048 (189.5 Kb) TX bytes:194048 (189.5 KB)
iwconfig:
no wireless extensions.

what kernel are you running?

The stock kernel.
BTW inet connection is okay, so that's not the problem.

What worked for me was downloading the kernel package and sticking it on my thumbdrive. Then I mouted the thumbdrive on the eee and ran a pacman -U /path/to/kernel. A quick reboot and I had internet access.

There's a wiki page about using Arch on the Eee. Following the directions there should be all you need to do.

Wow, it starts to get quite frustrating.
I can't figure out the right commands.
I keep getting responses like: cannot open package file, no such file or directory, /xxx does not exist.
Would also like to do a reinstall through the pendrive, but again the commands I try are always wrong.

Would you please provide a good description of the commands you are using, etc so we can see what is going on. It looks like you have a typo or something. Also I just did a new install of arch on a 900a and everything went smooth. I just had to download the new kernel to get internet.

Version 2.6.27.8-1 wouldn't install, but 2.6.27.9-1 went fine today.
Thank you for your response guys!
