Hello,
I am trying to install arch linux but I have a connection problem with dialup. I cannot proceed with the installation because of this.
I thought wvdial might help me to get connected so I downloaded the source file; but I cannot compile it because of dependency problems.
I am just wondering, is there any precompiled packages, available that I can download from the internet?
Thanks,
jmak

If you are on the live cd, execute:
pacman -Sy wvdial

Err, nevermind, I realized you don't have network connection -I am asleep-. You can download the binary package from any mirror, for example ftp://ftp.archlinux.org/extra/os/i686/w … pkg.tar.gz, in a computer with network connection and copy it to the other.
As wvdial depends on wvstreams (extra repository), ppp (core repository) and xplc (extra repository) you must download those too.
After that, you can execute
pacman -U *.pkg.tar.gz

My system is a 64 bit architecture. Is there a repository with those packages?

Yes. Go to your preferred mirror, and you will see that every repository (core, extra, community, etc.) have an "os" directory. Look into it and you will see i686 and x86_64. Click on the last one and find the packages.

Hi BinkyTheClown,
Thanks for your help. Now, I am connected and on my way installing the system.
Wvdial is an easy tool to configure dialup connection, I recommend everyone who is on dialup. I wish it would be in the core package. That would make life much easier.
Thanks,
