Intel i965 Performance is bad

Option "AccelMethod" "EXA"
Option "MigrationHeuristic" "greedy"

does not work, I did tests in glxgears and simple tests of Compiz.  I used to get 1000fps in the olden days, now
its 285!!! fps!!

I realize that they have 2 programmers working on this.  oh well.
i'm back with XAA and Option "NOMTRR"  thats the fastest setting.
the drivers have gotten worse, so much for progress.  This is really looking bad for the Intel Corporation.
Over the past year I have been waiting for the solution and its not forthcoming.

ahhh the good ol' days of nvidia chips in laptops...

Dell 1525  notebook owner (I will never buy HP or dell again)....

Re: Intel i965 Performance is bad

Lets rise up with pitchforks and protest Intel.  Others have the same issue:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/252094

this is rediculous.

A!ha!  Linus speaks  (Dec 18th)

"And btw, I do think that I'll make 2.6.28 be a Christmas release (or
Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Solstice, Insert-Favorite-Holiday, whatever). Because
quite frankly, this kind of boredom won't help anything and I'll go stir
crazy if I have to do this for another two weeks.

And I'll make the merge window longer for people who prefer getting drunk
on glögg to being a useful kernel developer. Although you could do both:
just prepare your tree to be pulled before christmas, and then you can be
in a mulled-wine-induced stupor while _also_ feeling like a productive
member of society during the holidays."

Re: Intel i965 Performance is bad

It appears MigrationHeuristic is deprecated in the latest "intel" driver release, perhaps comment it out of your xorg.conf for now?

There at least looks to be workarounds in that thread - https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/ … comments/4

Strange so many have this issue, my Intel 965 (Dell Vostro 1200) gets about 750fps in glxgears regardless of whether I use EXA or XAA, and I've got Ubuntu Intrepid on that. Then again, I never really tested 3D or used compositing when I had Hardy on it.

(also, don't blame Dell because you bought the cheaper laptop without the nVidia card tongue)

Re: Intel i965 Performance is bad

I will blame dell,

[1] my power supply DIED during work (I use my personal laptop for work) so I ran out and got a power supply
on my lunch hour.  I find out NON-DELL power supply's will not charge the dell battery.

nice.

[2] the edge of my laptop case chipped off, when i provided photos to the Dell (indian) staff they accused me
"you did this!"

[3] my LCD monitor now if you shake it has wierd blotches that move.

If I could afford a MacBook and run linux I would but my next machine is a sony Vaio.  My mom's cheap Acer is built
better than my Dell.
